SERIES NOTES

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico baseball team (31-16, 16-5 MW) will end its longest road trip of the season with a three-game slate against the UNLV Rebels (20-24, 10-11 MW) beginning Friday at 6:05 p.m. PST/7:05 p.m. MST.

At 16-5, the Lobos sit atop the Mountain West Conference with a 1.5 game lead on Fresno State and a three-game lead on streaking Nevada. The Lobos will need to have a strong weekend in order to stay ahead, with the Wolfpack and Bulldogs taking on the bottom two teams in the standings in San Jose State and San Diego State, respectively.

The Lobos have already won two out of three games this season against UNLV after an early April home series. The Lobos opened up the series with a massive 15-3 victory, and followed up with a Saturday 10-5 win to clinch the series win. The Rebels gave the Lobos reason to seek revenge, winning the Sunday matchup, 6-5. The Lobos ended the series winning 12 of the last 15 games against UNLV in Albuquerque.

All-time, the Lobos hold a 72-86 overall record against the Rebels. However, the program has been very successful against them under head coach Ray Birmingham, with a 28-19 record.

Birmingham’s teams have not been intimidated in Las Vegas. The Lobos have won three of the last four series against the Rebels on the road.
