COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of New Mexico men’s basketball starting guard Elijah Brown has been named Mountain West Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season.

In the Lobos’ lone game this week, a 76-57 win over Northern Iowa, Brown led the Lobos in both scoring and rebounding with 25 points and seven boards. His rebounding total was two short of his career high. For the game, Brown shot 9-for-15 from the floor and 5-for-6 from the free throw line.

On the other end, Brown was a part of a stellar team defensive performance that held UNI to just 57 points overall. None of the Panthers’ starters scored more than 11 points on the evening, and the team was held to 24 percent shooting from deep. UNI was the fourth straight team in which the Lobos held to under 30 percent shooting from 3-point range.

Brown previously was named MW Player of the Week after the first week of the season. Brown becomes the first Lobo to earn two of the first five MW Player of the Week honors since Roman Martinez in 2009.

New Mexico enters this week with two home games coming up, starting with New Mexico State in the Rio Grande Rivalry at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
