ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Former University of New Mexico point guard Hugh Greenwood will represent Australia in the 2015 World University Games in South Korea this summer. The Boomers are in Pool C with Lithuania, Finland, Japan, France and Chinese Taipei with play scheduled to begin on July 3 in the southern city of Gwangju.

It’s the latest chapter in Greenwood’s history of international experience, and he continues the lineage of Lobos playing in the World University Games. Greenwood represented the Boomers on U-17 and U-19 national teams while also representing his home country in last summer’s Sino-Australia Challenge. He becomes the first Lobo to play in the World University Games since Cameron Bairstow (Australia) and Alex Kirk (United States) participated in the summer of 2013.

Greenwood wrapped up his senior season with New Mexico in 2014-15 where he tallied five Mountain West championships in his college career. The Tasmanian became the second guard in UNM history to score 1,000 points and grab 600 rebounds in a career, joining Lamont Long (1996-2000) in the feat. He was an All-MW Third Team selection as a senior while being voted to the NABC All-District Second Team as well.

While the senior’s fingerprints are all over the Lobo record book, his impact on the community has been as big as any student-athlete in New Mexico history. His breast cancer awareness initiatives made national headlines, and his Pink Pack charity raised over $52,000 for the UNM Cancer Center during the season.
