ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s and women’s cross country teams will be holding team tryouts on Wednesday, August 13 at 9 a.m. at the University of New Mexico’s Outdoor Track Complex.
The nationally ranked and defending five-time Mountain West champion men’s and women’s teams are aiming to sweep the conference titles once again and are looking to reload with new talent, starting with a team tryout in August.
In order to try out, all interested students will need to fulfill a list of requirements before arriving for their tryout.
To be eligible, prospective student-athletes must be enrolled as full-time students (12 credit hours) at UNM for the Fall 2014 semester.
Students will also need to bring a signed paper from physician proving they have undergone a physical within the last calendar year, performed anytime from August 13, 2013 through August 12, 2014. For those who have not had a physical within the year, they must have one performed before arriving at the UNM track complex for tryouts.
Proof of health insurance is also required. Students need to bring a health insurance card or papers from their health insurer, or, if they do not have health insurance, students must have a policy before arriving at the UNM track complex.
Those interested must also be registered with the NCAA Eligibility Center and must have a Member Number. Additionally, students need to have their final transcripts and certified final amateurism registered with the NCAA Eligibility Center Clearinghouse.
Students should arrive promptly for the tryout at 9 a.m. on Aug. 13, wearing appropriate running attire.
There will be no other tryout date offered.
Those who make the roster will be asked to stay near campus for a team meeting. It is suggest students bring a drink and snack for post-tryout.
