ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico has once again elected to go with FieldTurf, the industry leader in artificial turf. School officials recently announced the decision to install FieldTurf Revolution at University Stadium, home to the school’s football team since 1960, and host to the New Mexico Bowl which started in 2006. The installation follows the school’s recent decision to install FieldTurf DoublePlay Classic at Lobo Baseball Park.

“FieldTurf is an attractive option for us because it gives us the opportunity to get considerably more usage out of University Stadium, whether it’s for high school football games, other athletic events or other activities,” said Paul Krebs, University of New Mexico Vice President for Athletics. “When you factor in the savings on maintenance, installing turf makes the most sense for us. FieldTurf is known globally for its synthetic grass expertise, and we’re excited about the partnership with such a trusted organization.”

FieldTurf Revolution is FieldTurf’s premiere product, and has been hailed as one of the most innovative new products in the artificial turf industry.  The FieldTurf Revolution fiber is a result of innovative science, engineering, and technology that will provide customers with a soft yet strong monofilament fiber that’s been designed for high durability and excellent longevity.  With new head coach Bob Davie at the helm and a new FieldTurf surface awaiting them for the 2012 season – the Lobos have high hopes for their esteemed football program heading into the future.

The FieldTurf installation “shows the commitment the University of New Mexico has toward the football program,” Davie said. “It’s another example of the school’s emphasis on having outstanding facilities.”

The process of changing the field at University Stadium from natural grass to field turf began this week as bulldozers and dump trucks took out the natural grass. The team expects to have the artificial surface in place for the Sept. 1 season and home opener against Southern.

“New Mexico football is a very well-respected program and we look forward to continuing our relationship with the school”, said FieldTurf President Eric Daliere.  “We feel choosing FieldTurf Revolution will offer Coach Davie and his squad a durable, safe, and high performing surface that will help the Lobos establish themselves within the Mountain West Conference.”

NCAA football is heavily influenced by FieldTurf.  New Mexico joins an impressive list of teams playing and/or practicing on FieldTurf that include: Ohio State, Michigan, Texas, Texas Tech, Oregon, Oregon State, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri, Rutgers, Iowa, Syracuse, Cincinnati, Louisville, Kansas, Utah, Mississippi, Boise State, Fresno State and Colorado State.
