CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS–The Lobos breezed their way through the competition at the HEB Invitational making their way to the championship round to face the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.
The Lobos played their first match against the University of Western Michigan defeating them with a score of 4-0.
At number one doubles, Jadon Phillips and Phil Anderson defeated Vander/Indre with a score of 8-4.
Number two doubles had a little more difficult time getting the win as Conor Berg and Ben Dunbar faced Olivarez/Wong. The Lobos won with a score of 9-7.
After the Lobos took the doubles point, they moved onto singles sealing the victory for UNM.
Phil Anderson played at number three doubles defeating Simon Blomberg with a score of 6-1, 6-2.
At number four singles, Conor Berg faced off against Zeyad Montasser defeating him with a score of 6-1, 6-4.
Samir Iftikhar clinched the victory for the Lobos defeating Aaron Wong at the number five spot with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
The Lobos advanced to play in the semifinals against the host school, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
At number one singles, Jadon Phillips defeated Peter Nagy with a score of 6-3, 6-1.
Conor Berg defeated Gergo Weidinger at the number three spot with a score of 6-4, 6-3. Conor Berg is now 11-1 in dual match singles.
At number four singles, Samir Iftikhar took on Nathan Robinson. It was a UNM victory with a score of 6-3, 6-3.
Carl Ho faced Fernando Llorens at the number five position defeating him narrowly with a score of 7-6, 6-4.
James Hignett fell to Pietro Jordao with a score of 6-4, 6-4.
The Lobos defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with a score of 4-1 advancing UNM to the finals.
The Lobos will face the University of Louisiana-Lafayette at 10 a.m. MT at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center on March 3, 2012.
