Fort Worth, Texas- It was the second time this season when the win for the University of New Mexico women’s tennis team came down to sophomore Emma Hayman. With the score at 3-3 Hayman spilt sets with Utah’s Lisa Johnson. Knowing the win was on the line Hayman dominated the third set winning 6-1 and helped the Lobos win their first conference match of the season upsetting No. 49 Utah, 4-3 in Fort Worth, Texas on Saturday.
All three seniors played a crucial role in Saturday’s victory. Maria Sotirchos came in at No. 6 singles and defeated Lexi Provancha, 6-3, 7-5.
Mackenzie White notched another win today bringing her season record to 17-9. White dominated Erin Monson winning 6-1, 6-3.
Remaining undefeated in conference play Ola Abou-Zekry won at No. 1 singles and defeated Anastasia Putilina, 6-3, 6-0.
“This was our best win of the season,” said head coach Kathy Kolankiewicz. “We pushed it to the limit today and played with so much heart. I am very proud of all the girls.”
The Lobos (6-12, 1-3) will stay one more day in Fort Worth to take on TCU at 10 a.m.
