TEMPE, Ariz. — The 22nd-ranked New Mexico women’s golf team moved into 10th place at the PING/Arizona State Invitational Saturday at the par 72, 6,230 yard Karsten Golf Course. Sophomore Britney Choy shot a 2-over par 74 in the second round and is currently tied for eighth place individually. New Mexico carded a 12-over par as a team during the round and is 26-over par for the event. The Lobos jumped two spots after the round one and will look to finish in the top 10 Sunday during the finals.
Choy has shot rounds of 70-74 and has a tournament total of 144. Junior Morgan Grantham is tied for 42nd individually after shooting a 2-over par 74 Saturday. Morgan has rounds of 77-74=151 during the weekend. Sophomore Jodi Ewart is 10-over par after two rounds and sits tied for 59th. Junior Mikaela Backstedt and senior Alexandra Phelps are tied for 63rd at 11-over par for the event. Junior Py Bengtsson is in 93rd place and shot a 15-over par Saturday.
Southern California leads the event as a team and is shooting 7-under par. Arizona State is second at 4-over par and Georgia is third at 6-over par. USC’s Dewi Claire Schreefel is the individual leader at 7-under par. Schreefel carded a 3-under par 69 during round two.
