ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—The 27th-ranked New Mexico women’s golf team will participate in the UCF Challenge on March 9-11 in Orlando, Fla. The 18-team field will begin competition Sunday on the 6,768 – yard, par-72 Red Tail Golf Club Course. The Lobos enter their second tournament of the spring after coming off a seventh place finish at the Wildcat Invitational on Feb. 25-27.
UNM faces a tough field as they continue to prepare for the Mountain West Conference Championship which will be held April 17-19 at UNM Championship Golf Course here in Albuquerque. Of the 18 participating squads, eight are ranked among the top 10 teams in the nation according to Golfweek. Those among the top 10 included No. 1 UCLA, No. 2 Duke, No. 4 USC, No. 5 Florida, No. 6 Arkansas, No. 7 Auburn, No. 9 Purdue, and No. 10 Georgia.
Also competing this weekend are the following: No. 13 Tennessee, No. 15 Oklahoma State, No. 16 Alabama, No. 18 Pepperdine, No. 19 Vanderbilt, No. 28 LSU, No. 37 Furman, No. 40 Florida State, and No. 50 UCF.
The Lineup– The projected lineup for the Lobos include Sophomore Jodi Ewart who is also ranked No. 19 in the nation according to Golfweek, Sophomore Britney Choy, Junior Mikaela Backstedt, Junior Morgan Grantham, and Senior Alexandra Phelps.
