Q & A With Junior LB Cody KaseQ & A With Junior LB Cody Kase

Aug. 30, 2007

Senior Cody Kase is a third-year starter who is one of the most active linebackers in the Mountain West Conference. Kase made a seamless transition to middle linebacker during the spring of 2007 and his production at the heart of the Lobo defense should make him a strong candidate for all-MWC honors this fall.

Kase got his first opportunity to play full-time in 2005, starting at outside linebacker, and went on to earn honorable mention all-conference recognition. He has established himself as one of the team’s top defensive playmakers early in his career and has shown a knack for making big plays when his team needs him most. The Valencia, Calif. product has two career defensive touchdowns and has blocked a punt that was recovered for a TD.

Kase is a two-time team captain and a tremendous performer in the classroom, who was named second team Academic All-American in `06. He owns a 3.92 cumulative GPA (Business Administration major) and earned his first B grade last fall. Kase is a candidate for the 2007 Lott Trophy, which recognizes the top players in the nation with an emphasis on academics, community service and leadership.

D.J. Renteria: What is the most exciting thing about another season starting for you?
Cody Kase: I think this year the team has a lot of potential coming back and experience. We were picked fourth in the conference again and can prove some people wrong while surprising a lot of people.

DR: What does it feel like to be voted a team captain for the second year?
CK: It’s very special to receive that reward because of the fact that captains are voted on by your teammates. It’s awesome to be voted a captain by your peers.

DR: Looking at the schedule for this year are there any games that you are really looking forward to?
CK: Beating BYU at home to start the conference schedule off would be huge. Every game is important but that one would be gigantic.

DR: Who is the best athlete you have competed against or along side?
CK: I would definitely have to say Quincy Black. He was a complete package both fast and strong.

DR: What is your favorite food?
CK: Sushi hands down.

DR: What teammate of yours would you say is the most fashionable?
CK: I would have to say (linebacker) George Carter he is always putting some pretty G.Q. outfits together.

DR: If you were a super hero for one day what would your name be?
CK: I would have to go by the name of “Mean Cody Kase” after my favorite athlete Mean Joe Greene.
