OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The University of New Mexico women’s swimming and diving team is in seventh place after day one of the Mountain West Conference Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla. The Lobos, with 65 points, trail Utah’s 105, BYU’s 94, TCU’s 77, Colorado State’s 74, UNLV’s 71 and Wyoming’s 70. Air Force and SDSU are behind the Lobos with 45 and 44 points, respectively.
Junior diver Carrie Quinn fell just shy of a medal, finishing fourth, on the 1-meter springboard. Quinn’s 252.00 points trailed Wyoming’s Brittany Wainwright’s 256.95.
The Lobos `A’ team, which included sophomores Tori Clarridge and Andrea Zarins, junior Jenna Syverson and freshman Katrina McLoughlin took seventh in the 200-yard medley relay clocking in a time of 1:47.41, which set a new top time for the Lobos this season in this event.
Seniors Robyn Miller, Cassidy Lespreance and Kelsey Leckovic and junior Jen Hale placed sixth in the 800-yard freestyle to round out day one of competition. Their final time of 7:32.76 gives the Lobos another top time of the season.
Day two finals begin at 6 p.m. The scheduled events are the 500-yard free, 200-yard individual medley, 50-yard free, 3-meter board, and 200-yard free relay.
