ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – University of New Mexico women’s basketball coach Don Flanagan has released the 2005-06 schedule. The Lobos will play 10 postseason teams from last year with seven of those teams coming from the NCAA Tournament. UNM will also have an opportunity to play six other postseason teams in the Preseason WNIT. The schedule is also highlighted with three conference television games, including an ESPN 2 showdown with new MWC member TCU at The Pit on February 12.
The non-conference schedule opens with Oral Roberts at The Pit for the first round of the WNIT. The Lobos then hit the road to play Big 12 power Texas before returning home for their Thanksgiving tournament, which includes Marist, Oklahoma State and Idaho. UNM next will host Minnesota from the Big 10 and then hit the road to play at Arizona State. New Mexico then comes back to The Pit to host their second tournament, which includes North Dakota State, Louisiana-Monroe and Creighton. Finally the schedule concludes with a home and home with New Mexico State, with a home game against Oklahoma of the Big 12 sandwiched in between.
The conference schedule for the first time will include 16 games with the addition of TCU. The Lobos open the conference season at home in a MWC Tournament Championship rematch against Utah on CSTV. The other two UNM games on television are at BYU on February 2 and at home against TCU on February 12. Finally the MWC Tournament will conclude the season on March 7-11 in Denver, Colo.
