INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA Women’s Tennis Committee announced today that the University of New Mexico has been selected to the 2004 NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship field of 64. New Mexico (20-4) returns to the NCAA Championship for the first time since 2000. The Lobos, currently ranked No. 31, will travel to Seattle, Wash. where they will face No. 32 Oregon (16-8) in the first round on Saturday, May 15. Match time is set for 11 a.m. (MDT).

New Mexico is making its sixth trip overall, including five straight NCAA appearances from 1996-2000. On the other side of the bracket, host University of Washington will face Fairfield on Saturday at 3 p.m.(MDT). The second round match is scheduled for Sunday, May 16 at 1 p.m.(MDT).

The NCAA will announce the field for the singles and doubles championships tomorrow with the selections posted on the NCAA web site (www.ncaasports.com). The list of individuals selected to the singles and doubles championships will be posted no later than 4 p.m. (MDT). Lobos Maja Kovacek and Iva Gersic are in the running to be selected for the singles championship while the eighth-ranked duo of Kovacek and Sandy Lukowski are strong favorites to be selected for the doubles championship.
