Lobos In the Rankings: The lobos are ranked No. 19 in the Soccer America top-25 and 24th in the CollegeSoccerNews.com top-30. The Lobos are also ranked 7th in the Far West Region of NCAA Division I.
Ranking Refernce: There are four major polls for Division I men’s soccer. A ranking references the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Top-25 unless the team is not in the NSCAA Top-25. It that case, the ranking refers to the highest ranking from one of other three polls.
Previous rankings: The Lobos have only been ranked in three previous season. In 1992, UNM climbed as high as No. 17 in the Soccer America Poll for the week of October 20, 1992. In 1997 the Lobos earned their highest ranking in any poll when they reached No. 15 in the Soccer America Top-20 for the week of November 3, 1997. Last season, the Lobos were ranked as high as No. 22 in the NSCAA Top-25 and CollegeSoccerNews.com Top-30.
All-Tournament Team: Sophomore Lance Watson earned the TLC Plumbing & Utilities Offensive MVP. Senior Stian Eriksen, Junior Jeff Krause and Sophomore Ricky Francis were all named to the All-Tournament team.
MPSF Rankings: Sophomore Lance Watson ranks second in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation scoring with six points and second in goals with three. Junior Andrew Weber is second in the MPSF with a 0.71 g.a.a. As a team, the Lobo defense is second in the conference with a 0.71 g.a.a.
Against Ranked Teams: The Lobos are facing off against two ranked teams this weeked in No. 21 Tulsa and No. 9 SMU. The Lobos are 7-21-0 all-time against ranked teams, including a 1-0 loss to No. 18 UW-Milwaukee earlier this season. This is the first time UNM is facing ranked teams in back-to-back games since the 1999 season when they defeated No. 17 Cal State Fullerton (2-0 on 10/15) and lost to No. 6 UCLA (2-1 on 10/17). Two of the Lobos’ wins over ranked teams have come against SMU, including a 5-2 win at No. 2 on 10/26/97 and a 3-2 win against No. 8 in Colorado Springs, Colo. on 9/4/95.
