VB Seeking Donations for Video Board in Johnson Center

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico volleyball program and head coach Jeff Nelson are continuing to seek funding for a large alumni video board to be installed in the team’s home facility, Johnson Center, for the 2017 season.

The efforts, spearheaded by assistant coach and alumna Pauline Manser and fellow alums Sheila Mendez (1987-90) and Sarah Kwasigroch (2005-08), have accounted for approximately a fifth of the sought-for $50,000.

So, the Lobos are reaching out to their alumni base, family and friends of Lobo Volleyball for additional donations.

The video board, which is slated to measure approximately 12 feet by 8 feet, would offer the Lobo volleyball program the opportunity to show video replays, support its sponsors and produce player intros during matches at Johnson Center.

Currently, Johnson Center, which opened in 1957 and has served as the home for New Mexico volleyball from 1985-95 and again from 1999-present, only sports two Daktronic scoreboards.

The program will accept donations of any denomination, and will offer gifts for donations over $100. For donations over $300, the program is offering two free courtside tickets to any home volleyball match. Additionally, the program will install a recognition plaque for donors that contribute over $500.

Those interested in donating can also contribute larger amounts in installments over a period of time. Manser also suggested that classes of alumni can pool their donations into one lump sum.

Check donations can be made out to UNM Volleyball, earmarked UNM Alumni Video Board. Contact Elsa Krieg at ekrieg@unm.edu for information regarding cash and credit card donations.

The Lobos open their 2017 season on August 19 with an alumni match. The first regular-season home match is September 8 as UNM hosts the Lobo Classic.
