Men's Tennis Named ITA All-Academic TeamThe University of New Mexico men's tennis team was recognized recently by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association as an All-Academic team. UNM seniors Kamil Pajkowski and Max Jones were named ITA Scholar Athletes. This is the third time Pajkowski has been named an ITA Scholar Athlete, and the second time for Jones. It is the third time in four years the men's tennis team has won the All-Academic Team Award. UNM previously won the award in 2003, 2005 and 2006.7/28/2008
Kassautzki Defends Canadian University Games TitleFor the second year in a row, the University of New Mexico's Graeme Kassautzki (ka-ZOW-ski) proved he is the best collegiate tennis player in Canada. On Sunday at the Rexall Centre in Toronto, Kassautzki defeated hometown favorite Mikhail Lew 6-4, 6-3 to take the men's title at the College and University National Championships. The competition was held in conjunction with the Rogers Cup men's professional event. A native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Kassautzki will be a senior at UNM in 2008-09.6/23/2008
Lobo Tennis Takes Part In ITA DraftThe University of New Mexico men's and women's tennis teams were selected to take part in the ITA National Indoor Playoffs draft. The new draft allowed teams to select where and who they will play in the first two rounds of competition on Jan. 30- Feb. 1, 2009. This is the first year for the draft after the pool grew from 16 teams to 64 for the 2008-09 season. The men's team will travel to Columbus, Ohio for their first two matches. The women's team travels to Evanston, Ill., for their first two matches.6/19/2008
2007-08 New Mexico Men's Tennis RecapThe 2007-08 University of New Mexico men's tennis team enjoyed one of its best seasons in history, finishing with a 20-8 record. That's the most wins by the Lobos in 13 years. UNM ended Mountain West Conference play with a 5-1 mark and a share of the regular season title. The Lobos held nine opponents scoreless and were swept only once, by Texas Tech on Feb. 23 in Las Cruces, N.M. The Lobos finished the season ranked No. 41 in the nation.5/14/2008
Men's Tennis Collects More Coaching AwardsUniversity of New Mexico head men's tennis coach Alan Dils has been named Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Regional Coach of the Year. His twin brother Loren, collected ITA Mountain Regional Assistant Coach of the Year honors. The Lobos finished the season with a 20-8 overall record and 5-1 in the MWC, sharing the MWC regular season title. |
