2017-18 Mountain West Scholar-Athletes
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — For a seventh consecutive season, the New Mexico Lobos picked up more Mountain West Scholar-Athletes than any other conference school. The Lobos have led the league each year since the 2011-12 academic year. Utah State finished second with 115 honorees.
The MW Scholar-Athlete award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in a Mountain West-sponsored sport.
Baseball, men’s golf, men’s tennis, and women’s golf all led their respective sports. Overall, UNM finished in the top three in 12 of the 16 sport categories, finishing in the top three in baseball, football, men’s golf, men’s tennis, men’s track & field, softball, women’s cross country, women’s golf, women’s soccer, women’s swimming & diving, women’s tennis, and volleyball.

UNM has now had 831 Mountain West Scholar-Athletes in the last six academic years. UNM had 106 in 2016-17, 145 in 2015-16, 112 in 2014-15, 117 in 2013-14, 132 in 2012-13, and 97 in 2011-12.
