COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Mountain West has officially announced the conference schedule for the 2018-19 season, the league announced Monday. Each Mountain West institution will play nine home games and make nine road trips during the conference season. This is the sixth year that the MW has utilized the 18-game format.

OFFICIAL MOUNTAIN WEST RELEASE

The Lobos will kick off Mountain West play on January 2 on the road at Air Force before returning to Albuquerque to host the MW home opener on January 5 vs Nevada.

Monday’s released schedule is not yet “finalized” as CBS Sports Network, ESPN Networks, AT&T SportsNet/ROOT Sports and the Mountain West Network on Stadium have not yet selected which games they will broadcast. This selection process will take place throughout the summer/early fall and may involve the shifting of some Wednesday games to Tuesdays and some Saturday games to Sundays.

With an 11-team field, each team will play eight opponents twice, and two opponents just once throughout the conference schedule. Last season, the Lobos faced San Diego State and Nevada just once. In 2018-19, UNM will take on Air Force just once, in the league opener on the road, and Boise State in the second-to-last game of the regular season on March 6 in Dreamstyle Arena – The Pit.

Each team also has two scheduled bye dates. The Lobos are scheduled to have byes on January 30, which will follow a home contest vs Utah State (Jan. 26) and precede a road game at Fresno State (Feb. 2). The second bye of the season is scheduled for February 23 between a pair of road contests, at Utah State (Feb. 20) and at San José State (Feb. 27).

As the league worked to arrange the mirrored schedule, a schedule in which the men’s and women’s schedules for each program are opposite, no teams have been scheduled with three straight road games.

Additionally, the conference announced the format and game times for the 2019 MW Men’s Basketball Championship. The 10-game tournament is set to begin Wednesday, March 13 with three first-round games. The men’s quarterfinals are set for Thursday, March 14 with semifinal play on Friday, March 15. The tournament will conclude with the men’s championship game on Saturday, March 16 at 3 p.m. PT.

Once the television schedule has been finalized, changes to dates will be noted on GoLobos.com for UNM games and official game times will be added. Pending broadcast date shifting, below is the 2018-19 Mountain West schedule for the Lobos.
