Denham Promoted to Asst. Women’s Basketball Coach

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — University of New Mexico head women’s basketball coach didn’t have to look too far to fill his vacant assistant coach position.  In fact, he just looked down the hall.  Symone Denham, who served on staff as video coordinator last season has been promoted to assistant coach, replacing Erin Grant, who left for Texas Tech.

Denham entered the coaching ranks in 2016-17 as a graduate assistant at Lourdes University in Sylvania, Ohio. Prior to that, Denham played for UNM coach Mike Bradbury at Wright State from 2013-16 (she started her college career at Michigan before transferring to Wright State).

“I’m excited to have Symone join our coaching staff,” said Bradbury, who led UNM to a 25-11 campaign last year, tying for the third-most wins in school history.  “With her experience as a player and coaching at Lourdes University she will have an immediate impact on our players.  As a former player of mine, she understands all our concepts and the type of player we like to recruit.”

While at Wright State, Denham was part of the winningest team in school history and helped the team win the 2014 Horizon League championship. In 2015 she was named to the Horizon League All-Tournament Team and her senior year in 2015-16 was the team captain and the SAAC representative. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Finance and Economics and earned her MBA in December of 2016 from Lourdes University.

“It has been an honor being a part of The University of New Mexico Women’s Basketball program over the last year.  I am humbled and grateful for the opportunity to continue to make a positive impact on our student-athletes,” said Denham.  “Mike and his staffs, both here and at Wright State, have been very instrumental in my professional growth.  I look forward to helping New Mexico Basketball become Mountain West Champions again!”
