Lobos Sign Transfer Keith McGee

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s basketball program has added transfer Keith McGee to the 2018-19 roster, the program announced Saturday. McGee comes to the Lobos from South Plains College in Levelland, Texas after playing for the Texans for one season and will be eligible for the 2018-19 season.

The 6’2″ point guard played in 32 games for the Texans last season as a freshman, starting in 22. He averaged 21.2 minutes per game and posted 7.8 points and 2.4 rebounds per game while helping lead his South Plains squad to the 2018 NJCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship in March. For his outstanding efforts during the tournament, McGee was named the MVP for the 2018 NJCAA Tournament.

The Texans earned a 98-95 victory over College of Southern Idaho in which McGee helped lead South Plains with 20 points going 5-for-8 from the floor, 3-for-4 from 3-point range and 7-for-12 from the charity stripe in the championship.

“Keith’s growth this year on and off the court has been exceptional,” head coach Paul Weir said. “His elite quickness and athleticism are perfect matches to our offensive and defensive styles. We look forward to watching Keith continue to blossom as a Lobo and thrive in our system.”

On the season, McGee shot 48.6 percent from the field, 44.7 percent from behind the arc while averaging 2.7 assists per game.

“I chose UNM because I felt comfortable with the coaches and the players,” McGee said. “I like their style of play, it fits me, and I can see myself playing great in The Pit.”
