ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team looks to keep its undefeated start to Mountain West play as the Lobos travel to take on San Jose State 3 p.m. (MT) at The Event Center in San Jose, California.

The Lobos won a battle of the two unbeaten teams in Mountain West play on Wednesday night – using a 17-5 run to end the game to defeat Boise State 100-83 at Dreamstyle Arena.

UNM had five players finish in double figures – led by Alex Lapeyrolerie’s career-high 23 points (5-for-10 from 3-point range). Cherise Beynon had 18 points and tied her own UNM record with 15 assists to go along with four rebounds and four steals. Jaisa Nunn had 19 points, seven rebounds and two blocks, Tesha Buck had 15 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals and freshman Antonia Anderson scored a career-high 13 points to go along with two steals. 

The Lobos shot 52.3 percent from the field (34-for-65) and 38.5 percent from 3-point range (10-for-26), but the big difference was the Lobos went 22-for-24 from the free-throw line (91.7 percent).

San Jose State has dropped its last two games, falling on the road to UNLV 79-60 on Wednesday night and at Colorado State 63-48 on Dec. 30.

In the loss to UNLV, the Spartans struggled from the field (18-for-60, 30 percent), including from beyond the arc (5-for-30, 16.7 percent). San Jose State was outrebounded by the Rebels 55-30 with UNLV grabbing 18 offensive rebounds.

San Jose State enters Saturday’s contest third in the Mountain West in scoring (70.6 points per game), but is last in the conference in points allowed per game at 84.1. The Spartans are third in the conference in 3-point percentage (34 percent) and are only behind the Lobos (161) with 119 3-pointers made.

Taylor Turney leads the Spartans in scoring this season at 13.7 points per game as well as in assists (58). Myzhanique Ladd is the only other player averaging more than 6.6 points per contest as she is averaging 12.1 per game and also leads the team in rebounding at 7.0 per contest. Analyss Benally is the team’s top 3-point threat as 28 of her 30 field goals made this season are 3-pointers and is shooting 32 percent (28-for-87) from beyond the arc.

SERIES HISTORY
The Lobos are 8-1 all-time against San Jose State, including winning last season’s lone meeting with the Spartans on the road, 82-72. UNM is 4-1 all-time on the road against the Spartans. UNM’s lone loss to San Jose State came Feb. 13, 2016, in San Jose – a 59-58 defeat.
 
THE COACHES
The Lobos are led by head coach Mike Bradbury in his second season with UNM, his 11th season overall. Bradbury posts a career record of 208-133 and is 30-16 at the helm of the Lobos.

San Jose State is coached by Jamie Craighead, who is 54-84 in her fifth season with the Spartans and 105-154 overall as a collegiate coach.
