ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Jason Sanders, who went 3-for-3 on field goals including a 53-yarder with no time left into the wind to help defeat Tulsa 16-13 on Saturday, earned a pair of honors today as he was named the Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week as well as being named one of the week’s “Three Stars” on the Lou Groza National Placekicker Award.

For Sanders, it marked his third Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week honor after earning it last year against both Utah State and South Dakota. It is the first time he has been honored by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission, which sponsors the Groza Award.
Sanders hit from 34, 39, and 53 yards, the last coming with no time left as New Mexico took a 16-13 win over Tulsa. Sanders was also instrumental on kickoffs, hitting all four of his kickoffs for touchbacks. For the season, Sanders is 5-for-6 on field goals and perfect on extra points. He also has connected on 15 of his last 16 field goals, and he has hit 14 of his 18 kickoffs for touchbacks.
