Weir Signs Australian Makuach Maluach

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Head Lobo men’s basketball coach Paul Weir has announced the signing of Makuach Maluach, a 6-foot-5 guard/forward from Sydney, Australia. Maluach will come to the University of New Mexico as a freshman with four years of eligibility remaining.

Maluach played his prep ball at Newington College in Stanmore, NSW, Australia for head coach Rex Nottage. Maluach was a member of the Australian Junior National team having competed in the FIBA U18 Oceania Championships.

“Makuach is a perfect fit for our system with his speed and shooting ability,” said Weir. “We have been very selective with our remaining scholarships in search of difference makers and feel as though he is one of those type of talents. His work ethic and character are exactly what we are aiming for and he is a terrific addition to our program.”

The Lobos now have two available scholarships for the 2017-18 season. New Mexico hosts Northern New Mexico in its season opener on Nov. 11 inside Dreamstyle Arena. Season ticket renewal is underway and fans can renew their seats up until August 11.

Season tickets can be renewed and new season ticket accounts can be purchased in person at the Lobo Ticket Office, the northeast corner of Dreamstyle Arena. Fans can also renew or buy online at unmtickets.com or by calling (505) 925-LOBO or (505) 925-1620.
