ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team is back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at home in WisePies Arena – The Pit as the Lobos take on Air Force at 7 p.m. The meeting will mark the first and only of the 2016-17 regular-season between the squads due to the uneven number of teams in the Mountain West.
As always, Wednesday’s game will feature exciting promotions for fans – including $1 cotton candy and $5 tickets for fans who bring a stuffed animal for Be Kind UNM. Donations will be donated to the Albuquerque Police Department for distribution.
The Lobos (13-10, 8-4 MW) enter the game coming off of a comeback victory on the road at San Jose State on Saturday. UNM’s Richelle van der Keijl scored a career-high 31 points, tying for eighth in program history for points in a single game. van der Keijl joins an elite list of Mountain West players to break the 30-point threshold this season, including junior Cherise Beynon. UNM has gone 4-1 in its last five games.
Air Force (3-17, 1-9 MW) enters the game 1-2 in its last three Mountain West games including a 62-59 win over San Diego State on the road. The win marked the Falcons’ first league victory of the season. The Falcons are led by freshman Mariah Forde who posts 10.6 points per game as the only player on the squad to average in double digits.
Series History:
The Lobos are 38-2 all-time against the Falcons including a perfect 18-0 mark at home in WisePies Arena – The Pit. Last season, UNM swept the series with a 63-33 victory on the road in January and a 58-36 win at home on Feb. 20.
The Coaches:
The Lobos are led by head coach Mike Bradbury in his first season with UNM, his 10th season overall. Bradbury posts a career record of 191-127 and is 13-10 at the helm of the Lobos.
Air Force is coached by Chris Gobrecht in her second season. Gobrecht holds a 546-519 career record, 4-46 at Air Force.
