ALBUQUERQUE, N..M. — The Lobos will honor three seniors on Saturday afternoon as they host their final home game of the 2016-17 season in WisePies Arena – The Pit. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the senior day ceremony is set to begin after the game.
The Lobos will recognize seniors Kianna Keller and Richelle van der Keijl for their outstanding contributions to the squad and will also recognize senior Josie Greenwood for her integral role as a member of the program. Greenwood played her first three seasons as a Lobo before returning home to Australia for family reasons at the start of this school year, working to finish her degree online.
New Mexico (15-12, 10-6 MW) enters Saturday’s game coming off of another heartbreaking loss that came down to the final seconds – this time against the top team in the conference, Colorado State, in Fort Collins, Colo. After the Lobos made it a one-point game with 37 seconds left on a 3-pointer by junior Laneah Bryan, the Rams ran out the clock and scored a layup to go up by three. With just over five seconds left, UNM drafted a 3-point play that was unsuccessful, leading to the 58-55 final.
The Cowgirls (18-8, 10-5 MW) are coming off of a b ye on Wednesday, having last competed on Saturday, Feb. 18 in a 53-43 loss against Boise State at home. Wyoming is 1-3 in its last four games after starting the conference season on a seven-win streak. The Cowgirls have gone 3-5 since their last meeting with the Lobos while UNM has gone 6-3.
Series History:
The Lobos are 39-32 all-time against the Cowgirls including a 25-8 advantage at home in WisePies Arena – The Pit and an 11-24 record on the road in Laramie after falling in Wyoming earlier this season on Jan. 21.
The Coaches:
The Lobos are led by head coach Mike Bradbury in his first season with UNM, his 10th season overall. Bradbury posts a career record of 193-129 and is 15-12 at the helm of the Lobos.
Wyoming is coached by Joe Legerski in his 14th season. Legerski is 263-164 in his career at Wyoming which matches his career record.
