Student-athletes must have over a 3.2 grade point average, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and be a significant contributor on the field. First teams are made of one goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three forwards.

“Lobo soccer is about excellence in the classroom, in the community and on the playing field,” Fishbein said. “Jason and Simon truly exemplify everything we stand for as Lobos and I am really excited for both of them. They have extremely bright futures ahead of them.”

Beaulieu earned his spot as the lone keeper on the CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team with his outstanding 3.99 grade point average in civil engineering. He is a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree and has earned multiple Conference USA All-Academic designations. Beaulieu is also a C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and a C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal recipient.

Beaulieu started and played every minute of all 18 matches for the Lobos this season, posting a 0.95 goals against average and five shutouts. He completes his career with 22 clean sheets, good for third in UNM program history. He also currently ranks in the top five in Lobo history in wins (34), saves (239) and appearances (68).

After being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team for the second time in his career, Spangenberg was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team for his impressive 4.19 GPA in pre-mechanical engineering. A 2017 C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal and C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll awardee, Spangenberg has accumulated 1,454 minutes on the pitch in his career to date and posted three goals and an assist in 2017.

The honor marks the first Academic All-America honor for both Beaulieu and Spangenberg. The pair are two of just three student-athletes in Conference USA to earn the honor. They are joined by Callum Mongtomery of Charlotte who earned a place on the second team.
