ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team is set to host its Mountain West opener against the Air Force Falcons on Wednesday, Dec. 27 at 7 p.m. The Lobos have won their last six conference openers.
Wednesday’s game marks the third of UNM’s special Friends and Family nights in which students can bring three free guests – just by presenting their student ID!
The Lobos are entering the game coming off of back-to-back victories over Rice and Prairie View A&M last week. Highlights include a pair of games in which the Lobos have outrebounded their opponent, as well as senior Joe Furstinger’s breakout double-double games. He registered his first career double-double on Tuesday against Rice and followed it up with his second, a 20-point, 10-rebound outing vs. Prairie View A&M.
Air Force is also coming off of a nice win entering conference play, putting up 111 points over Johnson & Wales on Friday. The 43-point margin (111-68) tied the 13th largest in Air Force history while the 111 points tied for the third most in program history.

SERIES HISTORY
New Mexico earned a 74-67 victory over Air Force on the road last season in the squads’ only meeting of 2016-17. The Lobos-Falcons series dates back to 1957 and the Lobos lead it 58-22 including a 33-4 mark at home. In the past eight meetings, the record is tied at 4-4, however prior to that the Lobos went on a 13-game win streak spanning from 2008-2013.
THE COACHES
UNM head coach Paul Weir enters the game 5-8 in his first season at the helm of the Lobos, 33-14 in his career. The Falcons are coached by Dave Pilipovich in his sixth season at Air Force. He has guided the squad to a 78-100 mark in his career.
