Bojorquez Named to The Athletic’s G5 Team

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Corey Bojorquez, The University of New Mexico’s record setting punter, earned some national accolades as he was named to the All-Group of 5 college football team by The Athletic.
 
The team was comprised of players from five leagues; the Mountain West, American, Conference USA, Sun Belt and the MAC.  UCF, USF, FAU, Memphis and Western Michigan each had two players on the squad, and Bojorquez was the only Mountain West player on special teams and one of six overall from the league (one on offense, four on defense).
 
Bojorquez had an amazing season, averaging a school record 47.3 yards per punt, the best among any Group of Five teams.  Bojorquez, who set UNM records for single-season average, career average, single-game average, single-game net average and most 70-yard punts in a season, saw 31 of his 67 punts travel at least 50 yards.  He also had 32 punts downed inside the 20.  His longest punt of the season was 78 yards, and that was one of four on the season to travel at least 70 yards.  He hit five such punts in his career.
 
Other Mountain West players on the team included San Diego State running back Rashaad Penny, Boise State linebacker Leighton Vander Esch, San José State linebacker Frank Ginda, Utah State cornerback Jalen Davis and Wyoming safety Andrew Wingard.
