Lobos Pace C-USA With Four All-Academic Honors

Irving, Texas — Four Lobos earned spots on the 2017 Conference USA Men’s Soccer All-Academic Team Presented by InTouch Credit Union for their outstanding performance in the classroom, C-USA announced Wednesday. Lobos to make the list include Jason Beaulieu, Sam Gleadle, Simon Spangenberg and Matt Dorsey.

The Lobos continue their tradition of academic excellence this season, leading the conference with four honorees on the squad. The next closest programs landed two on the team.

The All-Academic Team honors come just one day after Beaulieu and Gleadle were also named to All-Conference USA teams. Beaulieu earned a spot on the second team while Gleadle was tabbed to the third team.

Beaulieu, who boasts an outstanding 3.989 grade point average as a civil engineering major is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District recipient and has made the C-USA All-Academic team all four years at UNM. This season, he ranks second in C-USA in goals against average (0.95), save percentage (0.817), saves (76), saves per game (4.47) and also posts five shutouts. On his career, he has tallied 22 clean sheets, good for third in UNM program history. In addition, he currently ranks in the top five in Lobo history in wins (34), saves (239) and appearances (68).

Gleadle, a multi-time academic honoree, earns his spot on the All-Academic Team with his 3.743 GPA in business administration. He is tied for third on the Lobo squad in points with eight, posting three goals and a pair of assists on the season. Gleadle is one of UNM’s top chance-creators, posting a career .482 shot on goal percentage. He has also accumulated 22 points on five goals and 12 assists in his career.

Spangenberg earns his spot on the the 2017 C-USA All-Academic Team after claiming a 2017 C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal and earning a place on the 2017 C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Spangenberg’s hard work in the classroom has garnered him a lofty 4.192 GPA in pre-mechanical engineering. He has accumulated 1,454 minutes on the pitch in his career and has posted three points on a goal and an assist this season.

Dorsey is another 2017 C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal recipient and C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll honoree. He earns his place on this season’s All-Academic Team with his 3.859 GPA in communications. This season, Dorsey has started five of the 16 games in which he has played and has accumulated over 2,000 minutes in his career. He also boasts a .500 career shot on goal percentage.

The Lobos will face Charlotte on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 12 p.m. MT in the Conference USA Quarterfinal round.
