Men's Hoops Student Section Renamed "The Howl"

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Head UNM men’s basketball coach Paul Weir and the UNM men’s basketball team have partnered with students from across campus to reenergize the student section and atmosphere at Lobo men’s basketball games this season with a new, dedicated group called “The Howl.” The Howl will make its debut at the Lobos’ home opener on Saturday, Nov. 11.

The Howl, which will be present for all home UNM basketball games and offer exciting new benefits for members, is open to all current undergraduate and graduate students at UNM. Students can sign up to participate and/or receive updates on upcoming events and benefits by filling out a brief registration form at www.GoLobos.com/TheHowl.

The Howl was created after a series of meetings and focus groups with UNM students. Areas students designated for improvement were identified and acted upon. This season, fans can expect the following changes at Lobo home men’s basketball games:

Ticketless Entry: Students will be able to enter the arena with a valid UNM student ID (minimum 6 credit hours). Advance ticket pick-up is no longer required. Your valid UNM ID will be swiped at the student entrance on the north side of the arena, then proceed to The Howl!

Free Student Parking (while availability lasts): Parking will be made free to eligible UNM students for Lobo men’s basketball games in the STP Lot just north of The Pit. Just show a valid UNM student ID.

Early Arena Access: Students will be allowed to enter the arena before the general public to occupy the student section. The student-section doors will open 30 minutes prior to the general public. (For example, for a 7 p.m. game, student entrance doors will open at 5:30 p.m.)

Pre-Game Tailgates: At select Lobo basketball home games, eligible UNM students will be offered free pizza prior to the game. The first pre-game tailgate will be held at the season opener on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 5:30 p.m.

Friends & Family Days: At select Lobo basketball home games, eligible UNM students will be offered three additional tickets for friends and family to attend the game with them. These games will include: 12/19 vs. Rice, 12/22 vs. Prairie View A&M, 12/27 vs. Air Force, 1/6 vs. San José State and 1/10 vs. Wyoming. More details will be released at a later date. For all other games, students can purchase $10 guest tickets.

Trip Giveaway: Students who sign up to be members of “The Howl” will be eligible to win a trip to the 2018 Mountain West Tournament with the Lobos. More details will be released at a later date.

“Engaging our students is a top priority,” head coach Paul Weir said. “We want to recruit as many of them as we can in effort to enhance not only their campus life experience, but also the infamous home game atmosphere we are known for.”

The Lobos are set to open the 2017-18 season with a pair of home games including the opener vs. Northern New Mexico on Saturday, Nov. 11, and the Nike N7 game on Tuesday, Nov. 14. Both games will tip off at 7 p.m.

Season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased in person at the Lobo Ticket Office at the Northeast corner of Dreamstyle Arena. Fans can also renew or buy online at UNMTickets.com or by calling 505-925-LOBO (1620).
