Last year, the Lobos earned a 79-52 victory over NMSU at The Pit in the teams’ first meeting of the season on Nov. 18. The second match up had a less-than-desirable result for UNM as the Lobos were handed an 84-71 loss in the Pan American Center on Dec. 10. Until that fateful matchup, UNM was riding a five-game streak over the Aggies.

LOBOS IN THE NATION:
The Lobos are currently ranked No. 1 in the nation in scoring offense with 125.0 points per game and also in assists per game with 30.5. In addition, UNM ranks second in scoring margin (51.5), second in steals per game (16.5), second in 3-point field goals per game (17.5), fifth in the country in turnover margin (11.5) and fourth in total steals (33).

SERIES HISTORY
The Lobos and the Aggies first faced off on Dec. 22, 1904 where UNM earned a 21-9 victory in Las Cruces. The Lobos lead the series 121-97 but are 46-59 on the road.

THE COACHES
Friday’s contest will mark Lobo head coach Paul Weir’s return to the Pan American Center after leaving NMSU to come to UNM in April. He led the Aggies to a 28-6 record last season and an NCAA Tournament appearance before opening the 2017-18 season with UNM 2-0, elevating him a 30-6 overall record.

NMSU is led by first-year head coach Chris Jans who came to the Aggies with 26 seasons of collegiate experience. He is 1-1 at the helm of the Aggies.
