ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — On Saturday night, The University of New Mexico picked up a key Mountain West football victory over Air Force 56-38 in an odd game that featured a delay during warm-ups for lightning, a 61-minute delay in between the first and second quarters for lightning, and then a five minute halftime. Through all that UNM piled up 509 yards of offense and Richard McQuarley scored five touchdowns to tie a UNM record.
At the beginning of the five-minute halftime, unbeknownst to any of the players and coaches on either team, the national anthem was played. During that anthem, five players opted to silently kneel. Today, in the first media availability since Saturday, Coach Davie and the five players met with the players to discuss the events of Saturday.
