UNM open practice for fans set for Oct. 28

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s basketball program announced Wednesday that fans will get a chance to take a first look at this season’s team with an open practice set for 3:30 p.m. Oct. 28 at Dreamstyle Arena.

UNM second-year coach Mike Bradbury announced the event during Wednesday’s press conference and is excited to get to play in front of Lobo fans.

“We’re going to have an open practice and we can’t wait to get out there – and we’re going to scrimmage too,” Bradbury said. “We’ve got 14 players so we have plenty of people to put out there. We are super excited about that. … We’ll do a variety of things at the event.”

Lobo fans will be able to enjoy player and coach introductions during the event, roster information, promotional materials, raffle prizes, chalk talk regarding UNM women’s basketball, autographs on the Dreamstyle Arena – The Pit floor and opportunities to buy 2017-18 season tickets for the Lobos.

The Lobos overcame a myriad of season-ending injuries last season and battled their way to a 15-15 campaign. UNM returns several key pieces, including all-conference guard Cherise Beynon, as well as adding talented transfers and freshmen to the roster.

“I like our talent level – we’re going to be good enough from that standpoint,” Bradbury said. “We got to get the young ones learning a little more quickly. The old ones have gotten better since last year.”

Following the open scrimmage, the Lobos open their exhibition season Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. against Eastern New Mexico at Dreamstyle Arena.
