Lobos Host UNLV Wednesday Night

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team (12-9, 7-3 MW) looks to extend its win streak to four on Wednesday night as it hosts the UNLV Lady Rebels (14-7, 5-4 MW) at 7 p.m. at WisePies Arena – The Pit. The Lobos are 4-1 in the Mountain West at home this season and have won their last three straight home games.

Wednesday night’s game will include special ticket prices for the UNM Clean Out Your Closet game. Fans who bring clothing items to donate that are in good condition will be admitted for just $5. Items will be donated to Goodwill, an organization that “works to enhance the dignity and quality of life of individuals and families by strengthening communities, eliminating barriers to opportunity, and helping people in need reach their full potential through learning and the power of work.”

The Lobos are 3-1 in their last four conference matchups including a loss to then-undefeated Wyoming on Jan. 21. UNLV handed the Cowgirls their first conference loss of the season on Wednesday, Jan. 25 before falling to San Jose State on Saturday.

UNM continues to be led by junior Cherise Beynon who notched her 1,000th career point and 500th career rebound in front of 5,443 fans on Saturday night against Nevada. Beynon is just the 15th Lobo in program history to accomplish both feats.

UNLV is 2-1 in its last three contests including wins over Air Force and Wyoming. The squad is led by junior Dakota Johnson who averages 12.6 points per game, followed by junior Brooke Johnson who posts 11.7 and junior Nikki Wheatley who averages 10.3 ppg.

Series History:
The Lobos are 23-32 all-time against UNLV after falling to the Lady Rebels on the road earlier this season on Wednesday, Jan. 11. The series record includes an 8-23 mark on the road an a 14-8 record at home in WisePies Arena – The Pit. 

In the squads’ last meeting, the short-staffed Lady Rebels posted a 56-42 victory in Las Vegas. UNLV held UNM to single digits in the first quarter, outscoring the Lobos 23-8 before UNM attempted its comeback. The Lobos opened the second half with a 13-7 advantage in the third quarter but were held to just nine points in the fourth as UNLV finished off the win.

The Coaches:
The Lobos are led by head coach Mike Bradbury in his first season with UNM, his 10th season overall. Bradbury posts a career record of 190-126 and is 12-9 at the helm of the Lobos.

UNLV is led by Kathy Olivier in her ninth season. Olivier has accumulated a 131-142 record in her ninth season at UNLV and a 362-350 record in her career.
