Lobos Face Utah State Again on the Road

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team is in search of its sixth Mountain West win of the season 7 p.m. Wednesday at Utah State after falling to undefeated Wyoming on Saturday.

The game will mark the first repeat opponent of the season as the last time the two teams met, the Lobos claimed a 78-67 victory at WisePies Arena – The Pit on Jan. 4.

Both teams are 9-9 overall on the season while UNM is 5-3 in the Mountain West and Utah State is 2-5 in the league.

The Lobos continue to be led by junior Cherise Beynon who averages 15.7 points per game and is just 21 points from scoring her 1,000th point of her career. Beynon scored 23 points against the Aggies in the teams’ last matchup.

Utah State is led by sophomore guard Rachel Brewster. She is the only player currently averaging double digits on the squad, posting 12.1 points per game while adding 4.7 rebounds. The sophomore shoots 37.8 percent from the field, 39.1 percent from three and 76.5 from the stripe.

Utah State enters the game with just one win in its last five games. The Aggies’ most recent defeat was a 74-53 victory over San Diego State on Jan. 14.

The Coaches:
The Lobos are led by head coach Mike Bradbury in his first season with UNM, his 10th season overall. Bradbury posts a career record of 187-126 and is 9-9 at the helm of the Lobos.

Utah State’s Jerry Finkbeiner has guided the Aggies to a 64-79 record in his fifth season while posting a 538-321 record in 28 seasons.

Series History:
The Lobos are 14-6 overall against the Aggies after claiming a 78-67 victory earlier this season at home. UNM is 4-1 in its last five meetings with Utah State.
