Lobos Face Utah State for Second Time

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team will look for its fourth straight victory as the Lobos face Utah State for the second time Tuesday at 9 p.m. MT inside WisePies Arena – The Pit. The game will air on ESPNU (Comcast 281/815 HD, DISH 141, DirecTV 208).

The Lobos are coming off their third straight win Saturday, defeating Wyoming 78-71 inside WisePies Arena – The Pit. Elijah Brown, who earned Mountain West Player of the Week on Monday, led the Lobos with 33 points and 10 rebounds, his first double-double of the season. Tim Williams also finished with a double-double, putting together 14 points and 11 rebounds.

The last time the Lobos and Utah State met, the Aggies claimed a 79-75 victory in Logan, Utah. Jalen Moore and Koby McEwen combined for 38 points. On the Lobo side, Tim Williams led the squad with 30 points, 18 coming in the first half.

New Mexico will look to continue that momentum into Tuesday’s game with Utah State. On the season, the Lobos are 12-8 overall and 5-3 in MW, which is a half-game behind first place. Boise State and Nevada lead the conference with a record of 5-2.

On the season, the Lobos are shooting 47.4 percent from the field, which is second in the conference. They rank first among the league in shooting in conference games only at 48.3 percent. They are averaging 79.2 as a team in conference and shooting 39.4 percent from the three and 75.2 percent from the foul line.

Brown leads the team in scoring at 18.2 points per game while Williams is right behind at 18.1 ppg. Brown is shooting 81 percent from the charity stripe and is shooting 39.5 percent from the field. Williams is shooting 57.5 percent from the field which ranks second in the league.

Utah State is 8-10 on the season and in ninth place of the Mountain West with a 2-5 record. The Aggies are on a three-game losing streaking, falling to Wyoming, SDSU and most recently, CSU. They are averaging 72.7 points per game in conference games and are shooting 46 percent from the field on the season, 36.2 percent from the three and 69.2 percent from the foul line.

Moore leads the team with 17.1 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game. He is shooting 50.2 percent from the field and 40.2 percent from the three. McEwen is the only other player in double digits at 14.5 ppg. He also grabs 4.8 rebounds per game.

Craig Neal is in his fourth season as head coach of the Lobos. He owns a 71-46 career record. Tim Duryea is in his second season at Utah State. He is 25-25 in his career.

ABOUT THE SERIES
Utah State leads the all-time series 8-22. This will be the 31st meeting between the two programs. The Lobos have won the last four of seven meetings and are 2-2 inside WisePies Arena – The Pit against the Aggies. The series dates back to Feb. 2, 1952.
