ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Redshirt junior guard Elijah Brown has been named Mountain West Player of the Week after leading the University of New Mexico men’s basketball team to two wins last week. This honor is Brown’s fourth in his career and first this season.
Brown led the Lobos this last week, averaging 24.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. He shot 42.1 percent from the field, 29.4 percent from the three and 85.7 percent from the foul line.
In the win against Boise State, Brown finished with 16 points. He led the team with seven rebounds and had four assists. In the final minute of the game, he went 2-for-2 from the foul line to help close out the road victory.
Brown picked up his first double-double of the season Saturday in the Lobos’ third straight victory, defeating Wyoming 78-71. He finished with a season-high 33 points and 10 rebounds. He shot 48 percent (12-25) from the field, and also had three assists, one steal and one block. In the final minute of the game, he was 5-of-6 to help close out that victory.
On the season, Brown leads the team in the scoring column at 18.2 points per game. He is shooting 39.5 percent from the field, 32.8 percent from the three and 81 percent from the foul line.
