ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s soccer team heads into Mountain West play riding a six-game unbeaten streak as the Lobos host Colorado College 7:30 p.m. Friday and Air Force 1 p.m. Sunday at the UNM Soccer Complex.

The Lobos (4-2-2) are 4-0-2 since dropping a pair of contests to currently ranked teams in No. 25 Texas Tech (2-1) and No. 20 California (2-0) to start the season, including beating New Mexico State 2-0 on Friday in UNM’s home opener in front of 2,000-plus fans. It’s the longest unbeaten streak for the Lobos since 2012.

In the victory over New Mexico State (which kept UNM a perfect 7-0 against the Aggies), the Lobos got second-half goals from Claire Lynch and Savannah Viola in a contest they outshot NMSU 38-7 – the most shots a Lobo team has taken in at least a decade and the most a team from the Mountain West has taken in a game this season by more than 10 shots.

In Friday’s upcoming matchup, the Lobos are meeting Colorado College (4-4-0) for only the the third time since 2003 – both meetings prior coming the last two seasons after the Tigers joined the Mountain West as an affiliate. Overall, the Lobos are 4-6-0 against the Tigers – including last season’s 1-0 win on a goal by Lynch.

As for Sunday, the Lobos will be looking to improve their unbeaten streak over Air Force to 13 games as UNM is 11-0-1 against the Falcons since last falling to them in 2003. The Lobos haven’t lost to Air Force at home since 2000. However, Air Force enters the weekend (it plays San Diego State on Friday) 4-2-1 on the season, including a 3-1 victory over Northern Arizona on Friday – a team the Lobos tied with earlier this season.

A reminder that fans can purchase the 2016-17 Lobo Pride Pass for $50, which provides admission to every home women’s soccer match, plus all home volleyball, men’s soccer, softball, baseball and track & field events.

NOTES HEADING INTO FRIDAY:

  • With Friday’s goal, Claire Lynch cracked the UNM all-time top-10 list with 12 goals – tying her for 10th with Michelle Nowfel (1999-02). Lynch, a junior, is also only a goal behind for tying for seventh on the list and two goal away for tying for fifth. Laurie Hegedorn (1994-97) owns the program’s all-time record with 61 career goals.
  • Colorado College enters Friday’s matchup with the Lobos at 4-4 after falling a 3-2 loss at home to Northern Arizona, a team the Lobos tied with at 0-0 on Sept. 11. The loss snapped a two-match winning streak for the Tigers. Colorado College is led by the conference’s leading scorer in Clara Richter with five goals, which includes a Mountain West-best three game-winning goals. The Tigers are tied for second in the conference with New Mexico with four shutouts and are seventh in goals against average (1.36).
  • Air Force heads into conference play this week with a 4-2-1 record – including wins over Northern Arizona on Friday (3-1) and UMass-Lowell on Sunday (2-0). Air Force starts Mountain West play at San Diego State on Friday before coming to Albuquerque on Sunday. The Falcons are third in the Mountain West in goals allowed with seven and are fourth in goals against average at 0.97.
  • The Lobos have shut out their last three opponents and have a 324-minute scoreless streak going heading into Friday’s matchup with Colorado College. UNM goalkeeper Tayler Hammack has played 308 minutes of that streak with Emily Johnson playing the other 16 minutes (during the Lobos’ 2-0 win over Grand Canyon). It’s the first time UNM has had three straight shutouts since 2014.
  • Senior midfielder Maddie Irwin and junior midfielder Claire Lynch are each in the top 10 in the Mountain West in goals with Irwin’s four goals having her tied for second (one behind the conference leader) and Lynch’s three goals having her tied for eighth. The Lobo duo have accounted for half of UNM’s 14 goals this season.
  • UNM goalkeeper Tayler Hammack has been busy early in the season as the junior is second in the Mountain West with 35 saves (4.38 per game). Her three shutouts this season is tied for second in the conference. Hammack has played all but 16 minutes this season at keeper for the Lobos.
  • Though the Lobos started the season with seven straight road games, they were welcomed back to Albuquerque in a big way in their home opener as 2,012 people came to UNM Soccer Complex on Friday for UNM’s win over New Mexico State. That one home game alone already has the Lobos fourth in overall attendance in the Mountain West with the three teams ahead of the Lobos having already played at least three home games (Utah State leads the MW at 4,618 in four games – an average of 1,154 per game).
