ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The 2016 University of New Mexico football season starts this Thursday at 7 p.m. MT as the Lobos take on South Dakota on Branch Field at University Stadium. It’s an exciting opportunity to open the season on a Thursday night, but with weeknight games, there are a few logistical challenges that we want to notify you about.
Because class is in session at both CNM and UNM, certain lots you may usually park in for Lobo games may be full. Additionally, there will be more traffic congestion in the area as students and university employees get off from school and work. We ask that you please be patient if your regular lot is full. Lots will open six hours prior to the game, with the exception of the STP lot, which will open around 4:45 p.m. The Stadium East lot is used by many students to catch the shuttle to and from class, and will have plenty of student cars in it when that lot officially opens. We ask for your patience if you try to enter that lot, and ask that you plan ahead accordingly.
We also suggest that you should avoid Avenida Cesar Chavez when coming to University Stadium. There are alternative routes that you can take. These routes include Gibson Blvd. to University Blvd. or Yale Blvd., or Lead Ave./Coal Ave. to University or Yale.
Once again, the Lobo Game Day Shuttle will run from the lot at University and Lomas directly to Gate 5 at University Stadium. The shuttles will begin two hours prior to the game and run continuously. In addition, the Uber drop off point for the game is the Isotopes A Lot, located directly north of University Stadium off of Avenida Cesar Chavez.
Arrive to the stadium early if possible so you can avoid traffic. Plus, if you get to University Stadium early, you can see The Noms, a local Albuquerque band, perform. Or you check out the new the concession items by Levy Restaurants that we’re now offering! It’s an exciting time to be around Lobo Football!
