ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — It’s been a long nine months since the 2015 Gildan New Mexico Bowl, but The University of New Mexico Lobos will take on the University of South Dakota Coyotes on Thursday night at 7 p.m. in a game that will be broadcast on ROOT SPORTS throughout the Western United States on ROOT SPORTS Northwest, Southwest and Rocky Mountain.

The game is not just the 2016 debut for Lobo Football as the team looks to get back to a bowl game in back-to-back years, but it’s the debut of plenty of new fan enhancements and amenities that should make going to Lobo Football an even better experience.

Along with the opener, UNM will play five other home games including a Homecoming tilt with San Jose State on October 1 and a big rematch with Boise State Oct. 7.  UNM will have its final home non-conference game on October 22 against ULM, and then two more conference games with Nevada on November 5 and Wyoming on November 26.

In recent years, game day traditions such as the family-friendly Howl Zone, the pre-game Lobo Prowl, The New Mexico Man, and the addition of a state-of-the-art Daktronics LED display board – the biggest board in the Mountain West – have turned Lobo Football into a family friendly event.  Now, UNM has listened to the fan feedback and added more to make the 2016 season the best yet.

The first 5,000 fans into the stadium will receive Lobo Spirit Bands, the first of six giveaways, one for each home game, this season.  In the Howl Zone, a pregame performance by local band The Noms will take place, with the band also performing at halftime.

However, football is about being a fan, and having food options, and with UNM’s new multi-year partnership with Levy Restaurants, fans will love tasting great food with locally inspired flavors.

This week’s special concession item is the New Mexico Chicken Cheese Steak Sandwich, which will be offered in the North and South Grill Stands.

Also available is the Chama River Brewing Company Craft Corner, which is located in the Southwest End Zone field level area.  This 200-seat section features $40 tickets that includes a full buffet in the price of the ticket.  Along with the buffet, fans in this section will be able to purchase special craft beers from Chama River Brewing Company.

However, fans don’t have to be in the CRBC3 to enjoy a beer in the stadium, as UNM and Levy will sell beer and wine throughout the stadium.  Please see this previous release for information on UNM’s policies regarding the purchasing of beer and wine.

After games this season, fans will be able to head down to the Branch Field surface and be on the field after the game, taking photos, playing catch and most important, making memories.
