ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – University of New Mexico sophomore Luis Gonzalez is currently in Los Angeles, California with Team USA’s Collegiate National Team training camp.
Gonzalez is currently competing for a coveted spot on this summer’s national team. Training camp runs from Monday, June 27 to the end of the week. The team that is selected to compete on the national team is slated to play Chinese Taipei, Japan and Cuba this summer.
Gonzalez had a fantastic season in 2016 as a two-way talent. He started midweek games on the mound and was used as the team’s centerfield and leadoff hitter during the weekends. As the leadoff hitter, Gonzalez led the Lobos in both batting average at .381 and runs scored at 63. He finished well, earning Co-Mountain West Championship MVP and All-NCAA Lubbock Regional Team honors.
