Four Lobos Named to ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Team

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico baseball team had four student-athletes honored Wednesday as members of the 2016 ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Team for the Midwest region. Chris DeVito was selected to the first team, while Luis Gonzalez, Jared Holley and Carl Stajduhar were named to the second team.
 
Serving as the Lobos catcher for the first half of the year and as the designated hitter, DeVito broke out as an all-around hitter, finishing the season batting .375 with 16 home runs. DeVito was the team leader in slugging percentage at .685 and reached base at a .448 clip.
 
Gonzalez had a stellar season as a two-way talent, leading off for the Lobos as a centerfielder and serving as a midweek starting pitcher. As the leadoff hitter, Gonzalez led the Lobos in both batting average at .381 and runs scored at 63. He finished well, earning Co-Mountain West Championship MVP and All-NCAA Lubbock Regional Team honors.
 
Holley wrapped up an impressive career with the Lobos with a great season as a senior second baseman. Holley reached base at a .451 clip and tied for the team-high in doubles at 21. He scored 53 runs on the season and collected 42 RBI.
 
Stajduhar adds this honor to a list that includes MW Player of the Year distinction and a spot on the Louisville Slugger All-America team. As the starting third baseman, Stajduhar led the Lobos with 18 home runs and 66 RBI. During MW play, the sophomore earned the league’s version of the triple crown with a MW-best .421 batting average, 39 RBI and nine home runs.
