ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico softball team has a big week ahead as the Lobos play host to New Mexico State Wednesday before celebrating its seniors this weekend with a three-game series with San Diego State. All four games will stream live on the Mountain West Network.

ABOUT THE SERIES (NMSU)
This will be the 142nd matchup between the Lobos the Aggies. The last time they met was on March 8 in Las Cruces. The Lobos fell 11-3 in five innings. Most of the matchups have been very competitive between the two squads as the Lobos won a tight 4-3 game in 2014. The Lobos are currently beating the Aggies on the Rio Grande Rivalry scoreboard. The Lobos are winning by a score of 17.25-7.125.
ABOUT THE SERIES (SDSU)
This will be the 63rd, 64th, and 65th meetings with San Diego State. The Lobos won their first-ever game on the road against the Aztecs last season, claiming game one 8-6. The Lobos fell in the next two games by scores of 5-4 in eight innings and 10-2 in six innings. The Lobos are 2-7 against the Aztecs in the last nine games.
ABOUT NEW MEXICO STATE
New Mexico State comes into the game with a 35-19 overall record. They currently sit first in the Western Athletic Conference with a 14-1 record, its only conference loss coming to Grand Canyon on April 15. The Aggies are currently on an eight-game win streak. At the plate, they are led by freshman Kelsey Horton. She is hitting .384 on the season and is second on the team in RBI with 45. She has a team-best .701 slugging percentage and a team-best 63 hits. In the circle, junior Karysta Donisthorpe leads the staff with a 2.73 ERA. She is 10-8 on the season with 108 strikeouts in 113 innings pitched. She holds her opponents to a .234 batting average.
ABOUT SAN DIEGO STATE
The Aztecs come into the matchups with a 26-20 overall record. They sit in fifth place of the Mountain West with an 8-10 record. They are coming off a series win over Utah State last weekend. The Aztecs took a close game one 5-4 but fell in game two 3-0. On Sunday, they secured the series with a 8-6 win over the Aggies. At the plate, sophomore Jenavee Peres is leading the way with a .451 batting average. She has 32 hits on the year, 26 runs scored, nine home runs, a .915 slugging percentage and team-best .535 on-base percentage. In the circle, junior Erica Romero leads the team with a 3.71 ERA. She is 12-8 on the season and has collected 87 strikeouts in 126.1 innings of work. She holds her opponents to a .297 batting average.
ABOUT THE LOBOS
The Lobos are coming into the week with a 22-21 overall record. They currently sit sixth in the Mountain West with a 7-10 record. Last weekend, the Lobos claimed the series against Boise State after winning the first two games. They used all home runs in game one to claim a 6-3 victory. The Lobos pulled out a close 7-6 victory in game two but fell in the series finale 7-5. At the plate, sophomore Chelsea Johnson continues to lead the Lobos. She is hitting .442 on the season with 11 home runs and 34 RBI. She owns a .922 slugging percentage and a .477 on-base percentage. In the last eight games, she has hit .667 with eight home runs and 24 RBI.

JOHNSON WITH ANOTHER BIG WEEKEND
It was another big weekend for sophomore Chelsea Johnson as she went 4-for-8 with eight RBIs, four home runs, four runs scored and a 2.000 slugging percentage. She went 3-for-4 with five RBIs off three home runs in the first game to help the Lobos to a 6-3 win. She hit her fourth home run of the weeken on Sunday. In the last eight games, Johnson hit .679 with eight home runs, 24 RBI, 20 run scored, a slugging percentage of 1.571 and a on-base percentage of .667.
FORTNER BREAKS OWN UNM RECORD
On Saturday, sophomore Krissy Fortner broke her own UNM single season save record. Last season, she broke the record with five saves. On Friday, she earned her fifth save, tying the record. On Saturday, she came and in recorded the save to break her own record, bumping the save record to six. Earlier this season, she broke the UNM career save record and has now bumped that record up to 11.
LOBOS CELEBRATE SENIORS
The Lobos will celebrate four seniors this weekend against San Diego State. The celebration will take place on Sunday following the game. Lauren Soles, Lisa Rodrigues, Mariah Rimmer and Karissa Haleman will all be honored. These four seniors have played four years under head coach Erica Beach.
RIMMER BECOMING A TOP PLAYER IN UNM HISTORY
Senior Mariah Rimmer has made her mark here at the University of New Mexico. She will go down as one of the top players in UNM history. Rimmer is in the top 10 of many career categories for the Lobos, including batting average (1st, .361), slugging percentage (4th, .539), on-base percentage (5th, .411), at-bats (3rd, 659), runs scored (2nd, 137), hits (2nd, 238), doubles (5th, 39), triples (7th, 9), home runs (7th, 20), RBI (4th, 124), total bases (1st, 355) and stolen bases (7th, 62). In a single season, Rimmer is third on the list in batting average (.418) and sixth in slugging percentage (.692).
