FORT COLLINS, COLO. – The No. 2 seed University of New Mexico women’s tennis team took on No. 3 seed and host UNLV tonight in the semifinal match of the MW Tournament and after a five and a half hour marathon match, fell to the Rebels 4-3.
The Lobos fell early when they lost the doubles point after loses at the number one and three positions. The sole win in doubles play came from Andrea Leblanc and Rachana Bhat who defeated UNLV 6-4 at the number two position.
In singles play, the Rebels pulled ahead to a 2-0 lead when they topped Emily Olivier at the number two spot 6-3, 6-2.
Leblanc was first to put a point on the board for the Lobos when she defeated Carol Yang 7-6, 6-5 at the number one position. At the number four position, Dominique Dulski topped Paola Artiga 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) to bring the Lobos’ score to two, tying the match.
UNLV pulled ahead once more when Anna Bogoslavets topped Ludivine Burguiere at the number three position 7-6, 6-7 (7-3) , 6-7 (7-3).
Sharon Coone tied the score at three all when she won 6-2, 6-3 at the number five position, leaving the match at the number six position to determine the match. Rachana Bhat took on Iren Kotseva, but fell 6-0, 6-3, ending New Mexico’s hopes of a Mountain West title.
The Lobos end their season going 15-7.
