ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – This morning the Mountain West Conference released the all-league selections as well as the 2016 Freshman of the Year. New Mexico’s own, Ingrid Gutierrez, was named to the All-Mountain West first team.
A native of Cuautla, Mexico, Ingrid has led the Lobos this season with two top-10 finishes and five finishes inside the top 20. With a scoring average of 73.55, Gutierrez has shot a low-round of 67 two times, both at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational and at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. She leads the Lobos with 67 birdies in 29 rounds of competition.
Joining Gutierrez on the first team is San Diego State’s, Emma Henrikson (for the fourth consecutive year), along with Kaylee Benton and Mackenzie Blair from UNLV, and San José State junior, My Leander. Leander earned second-team honors last season.
UNLV’s Kaylee Benton has been named the Mountain West Women’s Golf Freshman of the Year. Currently ranked No. 68 in the nation by GolfStat, Benton recorded four top-10 finishes on the season and averaged 72.70 strokes per round, which was best amongst all freshmen golfers in the MW.
Next up, the Lobos will travel to Baton Rouge, La. for the 2016 NCAA Women’s Golf Regionals on May 5-7.
