DURHAM, N.C. — University of New Mexico catcher/designated hitter Chris DeVito has been named to the 2016 Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List, presented by USA Baseball. Sponsored by Major League Baseball, and presented in partnership with the Rod Dedeaux Foundation, the 39th Golden Spikes Award will be presented on June 30 in Los Angeles.
DeVito was one of two Mountain West players on the midseason watch list, joining Griffin Jax of Air Force from the Mountain West. The preseason watch list contained no one from the league.
DeVito entered the week ranked second in the NCAA in total bases (112), fifth in hits (63), seventh in slugging (.762), ninth in RBI (48), ninth in batting average (.429), 13th in home runs (11), 15th in RBIs per game (1.30), 24th in doubles (14) and 26th in home runs per game (0.30). DeVito has also thrown out three runners stealing this season in his first season as a catcher.
DeVito and the Lobos will take on San Diego State for a big Mountain West series as the first place Lobos look to win their seventh consecutive series starting on Friday at 6 p.m. at Santa Ana Star Field.
