Lobos Head to Oklahoma for Regular Season Finale

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The University of New Mexico men’s golf team is heading to Oklahoma in order to compete in The Maxwell Intercollegiate. The Maxwell is co-hosted by the Universities of Oklahoma and Oklahoma state.
 
54 holes are set to be played with shotgun starts used over two days with the first round beginning Saturday April 16 at 7 a.m. MT, the second round will follow that afternoon. The third round will take place Sunday, April 17 at 7 a.m. MT.
 
This year’s tournament field includes; Augusta University, Baylor, Colorado, East, Carolina, Houston, Memphis, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, and Tulsa.
 
The Maxwell is being held at the Dornick Hills Golf and Country Club, and is set to play at 6,586 yards with a par-70.
 
After an eight-year hiatus the tournament is set to return for the 17th installment. The Maxwell acts as a final end of the year tune-up before the nation’s top teams set out to compete in the NCAA Regional Championships.
 
UNM has laid claim to individual medalist honors only once, that being in 1998 when Chris Wall shot an even-par 210. The past tams champions include the likes of national powerhouses Arizona, Arizona State and Texas.
 
The most dominant team has been co-host Oklahoma State. The squad has laid claim to the team championship a record nine times (1996-98, 2002-2007).
 
Dornick Hills lays claim to many distinctions, including being the first course in Oklahoma to use Bermuda grass and it was also the states first golf club to be affiliated with the USGA.
 
The course was originally designed and built by Perry Maxwell in 1913, it was Maxwell’s first ever design. The club has played host to PGA Tour events and also carries the honor of being ranked inside the top-five golf courses in Oklahoma by Golf Digest on multiple occasions.
