ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico softball team will head to New Mexico State on Tuesday for a mid-week matchup at 5 p.m. MT in Las Cruces, N.M. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN3. Live stats will also be available.
The Lobos will look to continue their winning streak as they have won the last five games, including a three-game series sweep of Northern Colorado last weekend. The Lobos started last weekend off with a 7-3 win over the Bears in game one. They followed up with a 8-3 win in game two and put together an 10-1 five-inning win in the finale on Sunday.
This will be the 141st matchup between the Lobos and the Aggies. The Lobos lead the all-time series 86-58 but the Lobos have dropped the last two contests, falling last season 12-6 on March 24 and 4-2 on April 14.
The Lobos are 11-7 on the season while the Aggies come into the mid-week matchup with a 16-8 record. The Aggies are 3-2 in their last five games with wins over Southern Utah, Drake and Saint Mary’s. The Aggies fell last weekend to No. 7 Oregon and Florida Atlantic.
Senior Mariah Rimmer led the Lobos at the plate last weekend, as she went 7-for-10 at the plate. This season, she is second on the team with a .387 batting average. Of her 24 hits, she has hit eight for extra bases. She has a .595 slugging percentage and a .433 on-base percentage.
In the circle, the Lobos have looked to freshman Colette Robert. She is 6-3 on the season after picking of two of the three wins last weekend. She has a 3.66 earned run average. In a team-leading 51.2 innings of work, she has allowed 32 runs off 66 hits, while striking out 30 and walking just seven in 10 appearances. She holds her opponents to a .310 batting average.
Following this week’s game, the Lobos will have the weekend off and will return to action next Tuesday, March 15 for a doubleheader at UTEP.
