COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of New Mexico men’s basketball players Elijah Brown and Tim Williams have each been honored by the league coaches in the 2016 All-Mountain West Conference selections, announced Tuesday. Brown was named 2015-16 MW Newcomer of the Year and to the All-MW First Team, while Williams was named to the All-MW Second Team.
Brown is the Lobos’ fourth Newcomer of the Year honoree and third since New Mexico joined the Mountain West. In his first season with the Lobos, Brown has led New Mexico in scoring with 21.5 points per game. At 668 points scored this season, Brown is in range of becoming the fourth Lobo ever to score 700+ points in a season. Williams, a fellow Newcomer of the Year candidate, is the Lobos’ leading rebounder and most efficient shooter. Williams leads the MW at 61 percent shooting, 210-for-344, and is in line to become the third Lobo ever to shoot 60 percent or better with over 300 attempts in a season. He averages 17 points per game and a team-best 7.4 boards per contest, over two of which come on the offensive end per game.
The fourth-seeded Lobos are set to face Nevada Thursday in the Mountain West Conference Quarterfinals at 2:30 p.m. PST/3:30 p.m. MST.
