Lobos Battle to Defeat UNT 4-3

DENTON, TX—The No. 45 University of New Mexico women’s tennis team faced North Texas today a little later than expected after some delays due to weather. The Lobos pulled off an exciting 4-3 battle of a win.
 
New Mexico clinched the doubles point when they had wins at the number one and three positions. Emily Olivier and Dominique Dulski took on Tamura Kutubidze and Maria Konova defeating them 6-4. Sharon Coone and Ludivine Burguiere teamed up and topped Laura Arciniegas and Agustina Valenzuela 6-2.
 
Andrea Leblanc and Rachana Bhat who competed at the number two position were ahead 5-3 when their teammates clinched the doubles point.
 
In singles play, Burguiere is first to put a singles win on the board for the Lobos. She defeated Valenzuela 6-4, 6-2 at the number four position.
 
No. 115 ranked Leblanc competed at the number one position. She went battled North Texas’ Kononova, but fell 6-3, 6-2. Shortly after, teammate Dulski fell to Nastya Shestakova 6-4, 6-1. Dulski competed at the number three position.
 
North Texas took the lead for the first time during the match when Kutubidze topped Olivier in a tough three set match. Olivier fell in the first set 6-4, but came back in the second 6-3. In the third, she fell 6-2. She competed at the number two position.
 
Bhat was quick to answer when she tied the match up at three with a win at the number six position. She defeated Liang 6-1, 6-3.
 
The match left to clinch the win for either team was at the number five slot. Sharon Coone took on Alexis Thoma. Coone fell in the first set 6-3, but returned with a 6-2 win in the second. In the third, she continued her momentum to win her last set 6-2 and clinch the 4-3 win for the Lobos.
 
The Lobos advance to 7-5 in the season and will stay in Texas overnight as they travel to Arlington to take on UT Arlington tomorrow.
